About the area
The Cancer Epigenetics laboratory is based out of Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research, Nedlands WA. The laboratory is fully funded, working on development of novel targeted therapeutics for hard-to-treat cancers, including breast and ovarian cancers. The laboratory is focused on 2 main projects: the implementation of CRISPR technology to manipulate the epigenome of cancers of poor outcome and discovery characterization of oncogenes involved in metastatic spread, dormancy and resistance to therapy.

About the opportunity

  • Assist in the implantation of cancerous cells and patient-derived xenografts, treatment, monitoring, and dissection of experimental animals (mice) and processing of tissue samples using histological methods.
  • Work with a team of researchers to support various cellular and molecular biology techniques such as retroviral and lentiviral transductions in mammalian cells, transient transfections, e.g. using lipid nanoparticles, RNA/DNA/protein extraction, qPCR, western blot, and immune fluorescence and histochemistry.
  • Provide day-to-day technical support to ongoing research projects and collaborate with postdocs and research associates.

About you

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Science or equivalent experience in animal handling.
  • Strong practical experience with sample processing and laboratory equipment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Well-developed organisational skills and the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
    Proficient in computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, plotting of data, e.g. using prism and exel, and email.

Special requirements

  • Occasional weekend and after-hours work may be required.
  • Current "C" class driver’s licence.
  • Current National Police Clearance Certificate.
  • Able to meet the physical demands of the position.
  • Recommended vaccinations: Tetanus, Hepatitis B, COVID, Influenza, and Q Fever.
